O Rio Douro

Este fim de semana, aproveitando o clima que mais parecia de Primavera do que de Inverno, decidi subir o funicular do Porto, passear junto à muralha Fernandina, atravessar o tabuleiro superior da Ponte Luís V a pé e fotografar o rio Douro uma e outra vez...

Last weekend enjoying a climate that seemed more typical of Spring than of Winter time, I decided take a walk in Ribeira (Porto). I made the path along the old wall, with the help of the cable car,and then crossed the Luís V bridge on foot to take pictures of the Douro river, again and again...

Ponte Luís V

Esta ponte, que nós teimamos em chamar Ponte D. Luís, denomina-se na realidade Ponte Luís V. Aqui ficam diferentes perspectivas. Eu confesso que gosto muito de fotografar pontes e desta nunca me canso.

Here are different perspectives of the same bridge, called bridge Luís V. I must say I love taking pictures to bridges and this one never tires me out.

Jardim frente à Serra do Pilar

Se estas fotos tivessem uma banda sonora, seria o Porto sentido do Rui Veloso – “Quem vem e atravessa o rio, junto à serra do Pilar (...)”, lembram-se?

Estas são fotos tiradas do jardim que fica mesmo em frente à serra do pilar e tem uma vista sobre o rio douro de cortar a respiração...

These pictures were taken at the garden that is located just outside the bridge, on the other bank of the river.

Subindo pelo Funicular da Ribeira

A subida/descida ao longo da muralha Fernandina pode ser feita via funicular ou pela escadaria (opção fácil a minha, não?)

This is the cable car that makes the climbing and present us a breathtaking view

A muralha, idealizada por D. Afonso IV em 1336 surgiu da necessidade de defender o reino após uma tentativa de invasão mal sucedida por parte dos Castelhanos patrocinada por D. Afonso XI. Antevendo novas investidas D. Afonso põe mãos à obra mas não veria a muralha concluída durante o seu reinado nem do seu sucessor, o filho D. Pedro I . Só D. Fernando voltaria a empenhar-se nesta obra e a vê-la concluída em 1376, daí que tenha ficado conhecida por muralha Fernandina.

The urge to build a wall that would defend the reign was first conceived by D. Afonso IV in 1336, after a failed attempt of invasion by Castellan reign. Foreseeing further attempts he started the construction of the wall but didn’t live enough to see it finished nor did his sun, D. Pedro I did. Only D. Fernando would engage himself to see the wall finished in 1376. This is why it became known as Fernandina wall.

Largo de Santana

Por vezes saímos de casa com o intuito de fotografar o que está distante e esquecemo-nos que mesmo ao nosso lado, ha locais dignos de registo.

Aqui ficam fotos do Largo de Santana, tem uma capela muito simples mas muito bem localizada, fica mesmo ao lado da Igreja de Leça da Palmeira.

Sometimes we leave home with the purpose of taking pictures to what is distant and we forget that there are places worthwhile shooting next to your door.

Here are a couple of pictures from the Largo de Santana, a small chappel, located close to the church of Leça da Palmeira.
